The Future of the Hub City Railroad Museum!
The Hub City Heritage Corporation Board of Directors is excited for the future of the Museum! We have
added new Board Members and are wanting to update and add displays, both historical and interactive. We
hope to create an interest of railroading to new visitors of all ages. This past year we have opened up the
Control Tower, secured batteries (a generous donation by a local industry) to allow us to start up our 50+
year old Chicago Great Western engine, and introduced a hands-on Thomas the Tank Engine display to
start an interest in railroading to the younger sect as well as the kids-at-heart.
Our future, and very exciting, vision:
is to obtain land south of the Museum in order to build a larger building that will allow the Museum to
display more of the historical documents, currently stored in a climate-controlled building. We cannot
display these in the Museum due to lack of heat and air conditioning, which would destroy these
priceless documents.
The museum building is not ADA compliant, not allowing visitors with physical limitations to view any
exhibits on the second floor. A new building would give the Museum accessibility to all.
In a new building we would have more room to include more exhibits, past and present, to engage
visitors and to find our niche that would help us to stand out from other Museums, thus bringing more
visitors to town and nurturing interest to local residents.
Alas, none of these visions address the current need for substantial repairs to our building.
